Can bullhorn handlebars go on a non fixed gear bike?

I just got a ten speed vintage schwinn for riding around but it has the absolute worst handlebars. I don’t want those spiral crap bars I want some nice bullhorns but I’ve never seen them on any other bike but a fixed gear and I don’t want to convert it like some hipster would. Does anyone know if bullhorn (fixed gear) handlebars would work just fine on a non fixed gear bike?

Answer
If you have the shifters on the down tubes or the handle bar stem you can use anything you want. If the race bars are uncomfortable it is probably due to the wrong size bike.

Motorcycle accessories are a broad term and include items from protective gear up to stuff that make your motorcycle move faster. Leather motorcycle accessories usually include just (protective) gear, clothes and luggage items that you use when you ride. How do you fix a bike gear?

My sister and her friend broke my bike. I don’t know how. There’s something sticking out (more like sticking downward) from the gear holding the chain on the back wheel, and that has caused the chain to loosen, making it so I can’t ride my bike. I’ve tried to push that up and back where it is supposed to go, but its not working. How can I fix it?

Answer
You don’t fix it yourself. You take it to your friendly local bike shop, where they have the tools, parts, and expertise to fix it.

When you shift “up” a gear on a bike the chain moves up the front gears but down the rear gears. Why is that?

With a bike gear setup there are two gears; one large gear at the front of the bike , and one small gear at the rear. When you shift “up” (when you make it harder to pedal) the the chain moves up the front gears but down the rear gears. Why is that? Shouldn’t they both move in the same direction?

Answer
The “size” of the gear is determined by the ratio of the number of teeth on the front chainring to the number of teeth on the rear cog. For instance, if you have the chain on a 44 tooth chainring and a 22 tooth cog, the rear wheel will make two complete revolutions for every one revolution of the pedals. Whereas if you have the chain on a 32 tooth chainring and a 32 tooth cog, the rear wheel will only make one revolution for each revolution that the pedals make. Now, obviously, spinning the rear wheel twice involves more work than spinning it once.

If you move from fewer teeth to more teeth (a bigger chainring) in the front while keeping the rear the same, the back wheel will spin more which means more work. On the other hand, if you move from more teeth to fewer teeth (a smaller cog) on the rear while keeping the front the same, the rear will spin more which means more work.

What is the difference in power of a 15 gear mountain bike and 24 gear mountain bike?

I am asking this question considering that i am going up hill. How efficient is 24 gear bike than a 15 gear bike when climbing up the hill? Can anyone give me exact amount of maximum power these both bikes give?
I am asking this question considering that i am going up hill. How efficient is 24 gear bike than a 15 gear bike when climbing up the hill? Can anyone give me exact amount of maximum power these both bikes give? By power i mean the power/torque to go up. Like a car has more power in first gear than the 4th. I basically want some statistics. otherwise i am engineer my self.
By power i mean the power/torque to go up. Like a car has more power in first gear than the 4th. I basically want some statistics. otherwise i am engineer my self.

Answer
The gears of a bike are designed around the physics of ratios – like a winch would be; the longer you make the chain going round the furthest pulley against the first pulley, the higher amounts of turns the first pulley will have to travel. If the opposite is true the slower the front pulley turns and the faster the rear pulley will have to turn, but achieve greater speeds – assuming the lever is the same length but at a cost of higher effort. In this case the lever, the crank, will remain the same at every revolution. Therefore for a higher wheel speed you require the largest pulley at the front and the smallest pulley at the rear. This simplicity does not take into consideration geographical variations – like hills – wind – and rider differences – fat or thin – strong or weak.

The measurement you should be more interested in – is the amount of inches your bike can travel with one turn of the crank – and it should ROUGHLY be calculated thus:

FRONT COG / REAR COG X WHEEL DIAMETER IN INCHES.

Therefore

52 front 15 rear on a 27 inch diameter wheel gives a gear of 93 inches – or 93 inches of travel for one turn of the crank.

and 42 front and 23 rear gives a gear of 49 inches

Power is something entirely different.

Fox Mx Boots – Sylish Safety Apparel

One of the best reputable and top selling brands of riding apparel now is by Fox Racing. This without any doubt applies to their motocross boots too. Racing stars like Jeremy McGrath and Damon Bradshaw have contributed to the development of this apparel. Fox Racing definitely has changed from its lowly beginnings in 1974.

There is plenty to consider when choosing which are the best motocross boots for your particular tastes. A good set of riding boots will address the precise requirements of a rider. This is mainly comfort, functionality, and protection. Although we can just as easily ride in a set of basic work boots, the fact is that they cannot be as comfortable as a pair of boots intended purposely for off-road and motorcross use.

Ideal MX boots will offer ample protection. In order to avoid a rider’s legs or feet from being harmed, motocross boots are usually much less pliant than ordinary motorcycle boots. Further than basic safety, riding boots can give many other features similar to that of similar riding gear. Boots should give water resistance for added comfort.

Be aware that new boots are very stiff at first and must be broken in. The best means to break in a set of boots is mainly to wear them while riding. Eventually, they will fit correctly. You by and large want the fit to be only a little more loose than you would for normal shoes. When your boots are excessively constricting, you will end up being awfully uncomfortable while riding.

In the case that you are accustomed to wearing comfortable shoes, or simply want to make your boots cushier, you can put in some insoles just as we might with ordinary footwear. You can also choose to get a set of comfortable, lengthy mx socks to go with your boots as well. Regular socks simply won’t cut it in the off-road world.

The main things that typically break with motocross boots are the buckles. So inspect them and see that they fasten effortlessly and firmly. A lot of boots are also reinforced around the inside ankle and calf, where the boots can rub on your ATV a lot. Fox Racing boots feature a faux-suede material in that area, which helps eliminate that damage on your ATV.

You actually can’t go wrong choosing Fox Boots. They really stand out in motocross gear. Just decide on some that conforms to your personal style and the amount you can afford to spend. Not only are they sweet looking but additionally essential to your personal wellbeing. As with other essential protective equipment including goggles and roost deflectors, it’s a mistake to ride an ATV without wearing them. Naturally, there are good manufacturers like Thor and Answer Racing that should be considered.

Vintage Harley Davidson Apparel Identify an Imitation

Harley Davidson will go down in history as being one of the most famous and well known brand names in the world. Harley Davidson has been known for their commitment to detail and quality ever since they became established in 1931. Due to this, many companies create imitations of Harley’s quality apparel and other gifts such as helmets, boots, and bike accessories. It is vital that you become aware of the signs for authentic Harley Davidson vintage clothing because knock-offs are everywhere!

Below you will find several tips to help you identify what’s real from what’s fake. By keeping a few helpful signs in mind, you will be able to spot imitation Harley Davidson from a mile away.

Tip #1: Study the Harley Davidson Logo

For decades, the bar and shield logo has been around. In fact, it’s only changed a little since its original design back in 1931. When shopping for vintage Harley Davidson apparel, be sure to know the exact colors, shape and details of the genuine Harley Davidson Logo. Imitations often alter the logo first. As an example, a common logo variation includes the misspelling of Motorcycle. On a knock-off you will see this written in the center of the logo, “Harley Davidson Motor Cycle.” Notice the space between Motor Cycle? Always check the logo and look for slight alterations. This is the best way to identify an imitation!

Tip #2: Check the price. If you think it’s too good to be true, you are probably right with that assumption!

Pay special attention to this tip when purchasing vintage or antique Harley Davidson apparel. When in good shape, vintage Harley clothing can be quite valuable and expensive! The same goes for antique bikes and parts. If you feel that the price is an incredible bargain, the chances of it being authentic are lessened.

Tip #3: Pay special attention to the detail and quality of the clothing.

As mentioned earlier, Harley Davidson is known for producing quality products. This has been the company’s philosophy since the very beginning so if the article of clothing you are considering buying is of poor quality, its probably an imitation. Authentic vintage Harley Davidson clothing will be made with great detail and include real leather, accurate stitching work and high quality lining.

Is a Fixed Gear Bike and a Road Bike Different?

IF they are different, Do Fixed gear bikes cost more?
whats the difference?

im thinking about getting another.

Answer
A fixed gear bike may or may not be a road bike. Traditionally, most of them are, but fixed gear mtn bikes and cyclo-cross type bikes have recently become more popular and are probably more common. Fixed gear bikes were originally mainly designed for velodrome racing where braking is not as important and allowed for trackstands to be done, etc. They have now spread to the other branches of cycling. Cyclists sometimes use fixed gear bikes as an alternative method of training.

The cost is usually less, but they are generally harder to find. Your selection will be less with a fixed gear.

The difference between the two is that on a fixed gear bike, the pedals rotate at all times, even when “coasting”. To brake, one puts reverse pressure on the pedal stroke. It is possible to install normal hand-brakes as well, though most don’t come this way originally. Fixed gear track frames normally are not set up to accomodate hand brakes and don’t have the brake mounting bosses on the frame and fork..

Note that this is different than a single-speed or “coaster” type bike, that does allow you to stop pedalling, but only has one gear.

Of course, with a fixed gear bike one has only one choice of gear, so hills can be a problem.

My bike gears keep shifting late, and going out of gear?

I just bought a used TREK 830 mountain bike with a shimano 21 speed. It rides alright, but the only problem is somtimes when shifting (paddle shifter) it takes some gear grinding to shift into gear. Also when I stand up to pedal hard the bike goes out of gear and into another gear. How do I fix this?

Answer
It is a simple shifter cable adjustment. There is a barrel adjuster where the cable enters the rear derailleur. It will have little nubs on it and it screws in and out.

If it is shifting late going into a lower gear turn it out 1/2 turn. If the bike shifts into a higher gear when you pedal hard turn it out 1/2 turn.

If the shift is late going into a higher gear or it shifts to a lower gear under hard pedaling turn it in 1/2 turn.

When it is close to shifting correctly 1/4 turn will fine tune it.

Cleaning and lubing your shift cables will also help.

Do not adjust any of the screws on the derailleur.

http://bicycletutor.com/adjust-rear-derailleur/

A good chain and cable lube is a must.

Motorcycle Riding Apparel

For my birthday this year, I’m treating myself to a brand-new Suzuki GSX-R. I’ve never owned a street-legal bike before, but after testing out a friend’s GSX-R, I knew I had to buy one. These bikes just look so good and are so exciting to ride that I can’t wait to get my very own!

But I’m also very big on safety, and will do everything in my power to ensure that I have only safe rides on my new bike. For example, I’m going to take a weekend safety course for motorcyclists at my local community college and I’m going to obey all the rules of the road when I’m out for a ride. Most importantly, I’m going to buy appropriate riding apparel and make sure I always wear a helmet when I throw a leg over my bike.

Motorcycle riding apparel is an important component of bike safety that many riders overlook. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen guys (and gals) on the road in only a t-shirt, shorts, and sandals. That’s a recipe for disaster, if you ask me. Proper riding apparel, such as leather jackets, gloves, boots, and maybe even pants, is necessary for protection in the event of an accident. I’m not going to outfit myself like a Hell’s Angel wannabe or anything like that, but I am going to make sure I wear the correct apparel whenever I’m on my bike.

In fact, I decided to buy some riding apparel even before I took delivery of my new GSX-R. I went down to a couple of dealerships in the area and checked out their selection of apparel, but didn’t find anything I liked. The stuff they had in stock wasn’t to my taste at all and was pretty expensive to boot. I then got the idea of searching for motorcycle apparel on the Internet. I didn’t know if that would be a cost-effective move since most gear is heavy and would probably be expensive to ship. But I decided to give it a try anyway.

I’m glad I did, because I found that a lot of dealerships from all over the country routinely sell discount motorcycle apparel on their websites. The prices on these products were very reasonable, plus the shipping costs wouldn’t be nearly as high as I had feared. In short, I ended up ordering two complete sets of apparel and will definitely go back for more whenever I need something new.

Now that I’ve got my motorcycle riding apparel, I’ll be ready to take that brand-new GSX-R out for a spin as soon as it gets here! I know how much fun motorcycles can be, but I also know that there are some real dangers involved. That’s why I’m not going to take any unnecessary risks and why I’ll always wear protective motorcycle riding apparel out on the road.

If your bike is a multi-gear bike now, the way to make it a single speed for free is to:

i runs hero honda passion, i had the habit of keeping the bike in gear mode mode even when it is not in working , some times for a shorter period of time also i kept in athe same mode ,,,i vl not kept in neutral mode .
will it effect the performance of the bike engine ? is it preferrable or not?

Answer
If you are stopped in traffic, keep the bike in gear so that you can move quickly if you need to.

You can also leave the bike in gear when you park so that it will be more stable and not roll if you park on an incline.
