How to Choose Basket For Bike | wickerchina

A bike basket can convert any bicycle into a cargo bike. Bike baskets can be 10 to 20 inches across: small enough to fit a child’s bike or large enough to carry a case of beer. For carrying grocery bags, the width should be at least 7 inches.

Advantages of basket for bike:
* Easy to keep an eye on items in the basket: especially important when transporting dogs and other pets. Dedicated pet baskets, such as those by Snoozer, are also available.
* Retro good looks (wicker basket for bike).

Disadvantages of basket for bike:
* Additional weight can make bicycle difficult to steer. Unsecured, loose items that slide from side to side are especially dangerous.
* Basket mountings can interfere with brake and gear-shift cables on the handlebars.
* Can block front reflector or lamp. For these cases, baskets that can mount a reflector/lamp on the front enable the reflector/lamp to be shifted to the basket.

Simple baskets are attached to the handlebars with straps or hooks. Some have handles and can be lifted up and carried into the grocery store. This also works well with folding bikes.

For medium sized baskets and heavier cargo, bracket-mount baskets are used. The mounting bracket is bolted on to the handlebars and the basket is attached with a quick-release mechanism. A small padlock can prevent theft.

Most parents are choosing bicycle as gift idea for their children. Sound easy but really confusing though. Manufacturers normally produce wide range of bicycle sizes which make choosing a bit difficult. Children grow and differ in developing skills as well as needs. With that, it is vital to choose the design that suits your child’s need.

It seems every child’s passion to obtain bicycles. In fact, children’s bicycles (børnecykler) come in various sizes that cater children of all folks. Essentially, size of bikes as well as the riding nature and attitude of your child should be carefully considered in selecting bicycles. After all, it is your child’s safety is on the top priority when choosing bicycle for them. Size of bicycles for children are specially crafted in different sizes of wheels starting from 12 inches and gradually increases in 2 inches until they comfortably fit to the size of 26 inches wheel.  Designs of bicycle vary according to wheel sizes. Below are the different sizes of children’s bicycles.

·         12 inches wheel – this wheel size is appropriate for children ages 2 until 4

years old. At this stage, children are normally prepared to experience the joy of bicycle riding yet unprepared in using its pedals. To help them, manufacturer’s created a bicycle designed to fully address such need so children are used to controlling the bike, sitting, using the brakes without coordinate pedaling. 12 inches models of bicycles are appropriate for early riding experience.

·         14 inches wheel – such size is ideal for children ages 3 until 5 years old. Bicycle with such wheel size give sufficient functionality to the child. Price is similar to that of 12 inch models.

·         16 inches wheel – at this stage, children now experiments removing the stabilizers to experience biking in two wheels without the help of balancing aids. Such bicycles could be more suitable to fully satisfy their biking development. At this stage, children are prone seeing their friends riding bicycle at schools and could become part of playing.

·         20 inches wheel – this size could be their last stage prior to using bicycles that are designed for small adults. Manufacturers add more advanced features like better gears and suspension that enables the young rider level up their skill for more advanced biking.

·         24 inches wheel – many children jumped from 20 inch wheel to 26 inch wheel but remember children’s capabilities to adjust differ. Changes of wheels must depend on the preparedness of your child.

It is best to consider such factor in choosing the best bike for your child. Designs come in various sizes of bicycle and it is highly important to choose bike that aptly suits your child’s capabilities. Failure to recognize such factor will put your child’s safety at risks.

How do you fix a bike gear?

My sister and her friend broke my bike. I don’t know how. There’s something sticking out (more like sticking downward) from the gear holding the chain on the back wheel, and that has caused the chain to loosen, making it so I can’t ride my bike. I’ve tried to push that up and back where it is supposed to go, but its not working. How can I fix it?

Answer
You don’t fix it yourself. You take it to your friendly local bike shop, where they have the tools, parts, and expertise to fix it.

Should You Choose a Front or Rear Mount Baby Bike Seat

For fun, fitness and fresh air, bike riding is as popular today as ever.  Many communities have put in special bike lanes on their roads and bike trails in their parks.  Bike riding as a family is wonderful to do together, and in today’s busy world this is a very special activity to schedule on a regular basis.  For those families who have little children who have not learned to ride a bike on their own yet, a baby bike seat will allow you to include them in family bike outings.  There are several important things to consider when choosing the right baby bike seat for you.

One of the first things to decide on is a “front” or “rear” mount baby bike seat.  Each style has its benefits, and whichever style you choose will be based on preference.  A front-mount seat such as the ibert Safe-T Front Mounted Child Bicycle Seat or the WeeRide Kangaroo Child Bike Seat both put the child in front of you where you can see them, and your child can see ahead instead of looking at your back.  The rear-mount style like the Topeak BabySeat Child Bike Seat has a high back to support your child’s head and reclines for riding comfort.

Safety is always a number one concern for parents of young children.  There are slight differences between a front-mount and rear-mount style of bike seat.  The front-mount can feel a little more balanced, and if you are a bit of a novice at bike riding, this style might feel more comfortable for you.  The rear-mount is preferred for those with long legs who are concerned with hitting the seat of a front seat.  Also, it is important to never leave your young child in the bike seat while your bike is on the kick-stand.  The kick-stand on a standard bicycle is not strong enough to hold the extra weight of your child on the bike.

The next step once you have selected the style of baby bike seat that is best for you is to consider the installation steps to mount the seat to your bike.  The ibert Safe-T Front Mounted Bicycle Seat was found to be the easiest to install, usually in about 5 minutes.  When researching which bike seat to purchase, check the installation steps and the type of tools you will need to install the seat properly.  Another important item to consider is that some baby bike seats cannot be mounted on hybrid or specialty mountain bikes with oversized tubes and forks.

Lastly, don’t forget to pick out a baby bike helmet that will fit your child properly.  There are several brands like a Giro or Bell helmet to consider, and all come in a variety of colors and designs.  Now you are ready to take to the road and ride with the wind!

Find information on a front or rear mount baby bike seat such as a Topeak Child Bicycle Seat at www.babybikeseat.net.

What effects (good)does biking for 30 minutes have on your body?

I bike 30-35 minutes almost everyday, and I was just wondering what kind of results I should see. I am cutting back on the bad foods I eat and want to get rid of my fat. Will biking help, and if so, which parts of my body? Thank you!

Answer
30-35 minutes is perfect if you push yourself a little. You’ll find that you will tone up just about everywhere (especially if your going up hills).

If you get really comfortable with 30 minutes then double it… But no more. 1 hr a day is good enough. Get yourself a heart rate monitor. Depending on your age, excersise around 130-150 to burn fat (

How To Choose The Proper Cycling Shoes For You

There are shoes made for every activity, and bicycling is no exception. As there are a variety of bicycling activities, there are also a variety of shoes made specifically for each activity. Before getting into the types of shoes made for cycling, you first need to decide what your budget is. This will help you narrow down your choices. You don’t want to spend more than you can afford, but you also don’t want to go home with a shoddy pair of shoes. A decent pair of cycling shoes can be purchased for under $100, and, of course, you can go way higher than that.

Once you’ve decided how much you want to spend, you need to focus on the kind of riding you intend to do. Will you be riding a road bike, mountain bike, or a BMX/freestyle bike? Are you looking to race or to just do your own thing and get some exercise in the process?

Whether it’s a road bike, mountain bike, or BMX bike, if you’re just going to be a leisurely rider than almost any pair of athletic shoe will suffice. Your only concern should be the grip of the sole. For safety’s sake you need to be sure that your shoes are at least good enough to hold onto the pedals.

Now, if you’re going to be a little more serious about your riding then you need to start looking at more specialized shoes. First we’ll start with cycling shoes made for road bikes. Shoes made for the serious road cyclist feature a cleat on the bottom which hooks onto specially made pedals. This design allows for maximum power transfer as it allows you to generate power while pushing down and raising your feet. The disadvantage to this kind of shoe is that you’re likely to wreck a few times as you acclimate yourself to them. Also, such shoes are no good to walk in as the cleat constantly gets in the way. Such shoes are made just for riding and racing.

There are also road shoes which don’t latch onto the pedals. Typically these have smooth firm soles. Shoes made for mountain bike also may feature a cleat and binding system similar to road bikes. Typically, though, such shoes unhook easier because mountain bikers often have to remove their feet from the pedals. The more common type of mountain bike shoes don’t latch on at all. They feature rugged soles similar to hiking boots and are, in fact, very similar to hiking boots. For a recreational mountain biker, hiking boots will work just fine.

BMX riders and freestylers use shoes which are very similar to shoes made for skateboarding. These shoes have stiff soles with excellent traction so they grip the pedals and provide as much power as possible. The uppers on these shoes are strong and durable to withstand the beating they’ll endure while doing tricks and flying around dirt tracks.

If you’re just an occasional bike rider, any pair of sneakers with a good sole will do, but if you’re a more serious rider than you need to get a pair of specially made cycling shoes. They’re produced by a variety of manufacturers based all over the world. Figure out what your budget is, envision the sort of riding you intend to do, and do some research. Ask the pros at the local bike shop and look online for reviews and information.

Answer

Choose A Recumbent Exercise Bike For Easier Exercise Workouts

A recumbent exercise bike  is certainly something you should consider if you are looking to buy a new piece of exercise equipment. While there are many types of home exercise equipment on the market it can be hard to know which to choose.  You could go for a  treadmill, a ski walker, a rowing machine or maybe even for a set of weights. Certainly these can help you to burn calories and get fitter. The one common  drawback with them all sore muscles and a lot of hard work.

You may be considering some home exercising equipment for the advantages they offer. If it is a matter of losing weight, getting fitter or maintaining health certainly you could simply join a gym There are several disadvantages to that though. First and foremost is the cost, gym membership can be very expensive. Then there is the motivation to go regularly and get the most from your membership and will you want to go out in winter to the gym?

So buying your own exercise machine that you can use in the convenience of your own home whenever it suits you  is a great idea. You will also probably save on gym fees too. A simple upright exercise bike is a very popular choice. These machines are simple to set up and  very easy to use. However some users may have difficulty with them. For one thing, the larger or heavier person will find the narrow seats dreadfully uncomfortable. This especially the case for men. Some find maintaining good balance tough as well and this can detract from a good workout.

This is why the recumbent exercise bike  is a far superior option in terms of use. The beauty of their design is the user sits in a padded comfortable seat leaning against a backrest in a semi-reclining position. The legs are positioned out in front onto the pedals. The same  as in any comfortable sitting position, the person’s weight is much better supported in the padded seat.

Because this is a much more relaxed position, physical workout routines are much easier to do and therefore a great deal more enjoyable. Concentrating on maintaining balance as with ordinary exercise bikes is not an issue on a recumbent bike. The user may easily watch TV while pedalling away burning those calories. It makes it almost as simple and easy as if reclining the sofa.

Being only slightly larger than the usual stationary bike a recumbent exercise machine takes up no more space in the home. For mature people with physical difficulties and larger built users, the recumbent exercise bike is the perfect home exercise equipment.

A recumbent exercise bike is a great choice for home users. Before you buy you need to know all the details and I have done the research so you don’t have to. Find out all you need to know here about the recumbent exercise bike.

What type of bicycle can be used for light mountain biking and riding around my neighborhood?

I am looking for a bike that I can use not only for easy mountain biking trails, but also for riding around my neighborhood. I have seen hybrid bikes and Im not totally sure what those are. Can someone please help me or point me in the right direction!!! Thanks

Answer
You sound like a candidate for a hybrid. They are called that because they are a cross between a road and mountain bike. The frame is similar to a mountain bike. Wheels are the same diameter as road bikes (700C) but narrower and tires have less aggressive treads than a true mountain bike. They often have front (and maybe seat) suspension, but they will usually have mountain bike style handlebars and gears. They are well suited to city roads, bike paths and hardpack trails, but being a hybrid are less suited to long, fast road rides than a road bike or to rough/demanding trails than a mountain bike. See the article at the link.

How Should You Choose A Used Motorcycle

When you are looking for a discount motorcycle, you should look at the wide range of new bikes that are available to you. They are really great looking and great deals.

Looking at used bikes may seem overwhelming, especially if you are going to a dealer for your choices. They often have many bikes lined up for you to look though and make the prices very comparative. You should go into the store with an idea as what you are looking for so that you know when you start.

Some people know what kind of bike they want and how much they want to spend. This helps because the dealer will have to agree with your terms before you start and won’t try so hard to make your payments high.

When you go into a motorcycle gear shop for your new used motorcycle, you will probably not have as much pressure because you will be purchasing your bike outright there. Many dealers want you to go into the high payments so that they can get more money out of you in the long run.

You may also look for your motorcycle in the paper. This is a good idea if you are in an area that a lot of people are in. You don’t want to have to look really hard for motorcycles in your area just so you can find the one that you are looking for. If you do live in a small town and want to do this, you may have to look for a long time to get the one that is right for you. This may include also looking in towns around you too. This can make it frustrating, but you will find your bike in the long run.

Take the time to look for the motorcycle that is good for you and the motorcycle gear that is right for your style of riding. This will help you to look good and feel good on the bike that you decide to purchase. You also want to make sure that you are taking some time to research the options that are available to you. That way you will be happy with the motorcycle you decide to invest in for the long run. Too many people buy a bike and then decide they hate it all because they never researched anything about it.

How do bike gears make biking easier ?

what is the difference between gear 1,2,3

Answer
The human legs are small low powered motors, yet the demands of the different terrain requires a motor able to put out high speed or high power at different times.

By using the magic of gear physics, the gearing can turn your leg output to higher power, but lower speed, for climbing hills. that’s why we loose speed going up hills.

When we get on the flat and select a different gear, we can fly really fast by using gears that are oriented to bicycle speed rather than low-speed high-power hill climbing.

With out the different gears, you would have only one intermediate compromise gear, and not very good at going real fast or climbing tough hills. YOu would be really grinding hard to climb hills, and spinning your legs outrageously fast when going down even small hills,

Typically the lowest numbered gear (1) is for the lowest speed and for hill climbing power.

As you increase the number to the maximum gear, say 21, the gearing go for a little less power and a little more speed until you get to the last one (21) which is all speed and no hill climbing power.

Hope this helps you to understand this and makes for a pleasant cycling experience.

Choose a Harley Davidson Jacket for Your Biking Needs

When it comes to getting your own motorcycle, nothing beats in owning a Harley but they are quite expensive and so why not get the next best thing and that is get your own Harley Davidson Jacket.  They are the best out there.  It is a fact that when people think of motorcycles, the name Harley pop up in their minds instantly.

Bikers are aware that these motorcycle jackets are needed for their protection but even before they think of the safety concerns, most of them have dreamt of wearing one when they are aboard their bikes.  Just imagine those non-bikers who often thought that those leather jackets are preferred by bikers just to complete the fashion look.  Harley Davidson jackets have that excellent reputation that did not diminished over the years.  Since the first time they were introduced to the public up to this day, more and more people are joining the motorcycle enthusiasts in loving the name not only for the motorcycle itself but also for the apparel as well or anything related to it.

The name alone is synonymous to quality and style.  A wearer is assured that they are made with premium quality leather and other materials that would ensure safety.  Riding a bike would mean a certain vulnerability of the body from outside and uncontrollable elements.  It is therefore just right that you choose the right shield for your body. A Harley Davidson jacket will always be a top choice as a protective gear for any motorcyclist.  They are not only engineered to defend the body from the cold, heat, dust and small or large stuff that are flying around you when you are riding the bike but it helps in making you look cool and sexy at the same time.

This fascination over leather jackets especially the Harley Davidson jacket could be largely due to the iconic Harley motorcycle but in part due to the movies back in the 50′s and 60′s with theme of cool outlaw or rebellious bikers such as Marlon Brando and the Hell’s Angels.  While it was not that good of an image back then, people never lost interest with it, thus it still enjoys the popularity among all motorcycle enthusiasts.

Today, people know the difference between reel and real.  Bikers are not necessarily outlaws or rebels, it is just that motorcycle leather jackets are synonymous to that aggressive and rough look.  There is something so manly and sexy with men wearing motorcycle leather jacket that even the non-bikers are favoring them.  It even becomes 100% better if one is wearing a Harley Davidson jacket.  The appeal of the jacket is not limited with the women because the men drool at it as well but with a different reason. It is not because they are attracted to the wearer but they longed to have the same jacket as well. It is as if they are gazing on a priceless Harley bike. If you are thinking of buying a new motorcycle jacket, get something from Harley.  They are not only functional but quite stylish too.

For more information and tips, please visit Harley Davidson leather jackets and leather chaps.

Do I need horizontal dropouts or track fork ends on a fixed-gear bike?

I’m interested in converting my mountain bike to a fixed gear. I read that I’ll need either a track bike fork end or horizontal dropouts, whereas my bike currently has vertical dropouts. Would I need to weld a new fork end on? Would this be possible?

Answer
It is highly highly reconmended that you weld on some track dropouts like a bmx bike. It is possible to ride a fixie with vertical dropouts but that tend to lead to loose chain tension because you can’t move the rear wheel back and forth. You’ll want tight chain tension for when you go on trails or bumpy rides. The composition or material of the bike will make a differenece. If its steel then it should be easy but if it’s aluminum then I think you’re less likely to find a welder who can do aluminum properly. My suggestion would be to get a true single speed mtb frame and work up from there. Bianchi makes some great ones with their M.U.S.S and others of that line. Maybe even think about a 29er singlespeed frame. Those are designed for that specific reason and will lead to straight chainline which is a big big plus.

How to Use and Choose an Exercise Bike in Tempe

Thinking about buying an exercise bike in Tempe? This article will provide you with information on how to use an exercise bike, along with basic safety and buying tips. Whether you’re looking for a basic machine or one with the latest technology has to offer, the following information will be beneficial to you and will help you choose the exercise equipment that’s right for you.

Exercise bikes can be used for cardio exercise, building endurance, burning fat and calories, and strengthening muscles. No matter what you use your exercise bike for it’s good to know basic use and safety. There are two styles of exercise bikes in Tempe – upright and recumbent – and their operation is the same. To get started, position yourself onto the seat. Put your feet on the pedals and adjust the seat so that you come close to full knee extension but not all the way, then adjust your seatback angle for comfort.

When you’re ready, start pedaling! This will start the machine and you can then select your workout program from one of the preset exercises or personalize your workout to your own liking. If you want to use your exercise bike to increase your aerobic fitness, try doing intervals. After a warm-up, go as fast as you can for 30 seconds, than slow way down for a minute and repeat. To end your workout, slowly decrease your speed until you come to a complete stop.

Here’s a safety tip: If there are straps on the pedals be sure to use them – it could prevent injury due to slippage or overextension. And remember – always consult a physician or healthcare provider before beginning an exercise program.

While the basic use of an exercise bike in Tempe is pretty easy, shopping for a home exercise bike can be very intimidating! There are so many different brands, models and styles it can be next to impossible to choose the right one for your home. For most people, buying a home exercise bike is a major investment. It’s also a good investment for those who have decided to make a conscious effort to be fit and healthy. That is why it is important to put together a checklist that identifies attributes that are most important for you and your workout. Here are some tips that should help you out:

1. The first thing you should consider when choosing an exercise bike in Tempe is the construction. A well-constructed exercise bike is something that everyone in your family can enjoy. You will want an exercise bike that is built with high alloy steel or aluminum frame that is strong enough to support the heaviest person. Some machines come with a weight limit – make sure that limit won’t inhibit your workout.

2. Watch out for noise! A major consideration for a home exercise bike in Tempe is the amount of noise it can produce. A loud machine can drown out a lot of noise – kids, television, oven timers, etc. And some small, repetitive sounds can drive a person crazy and provide you with one more reason not to exercise. We recommend testing an exercise bike before you buy it. Sit on it and go through the motions so you can assess the noise level and see if it’s something you can live with.

3. Choosing between an upright bike or a recumbent bike is up to your own personal preference. Upright exercise bikes are great for those who prefer a classic seated position – and they are perfect for those that want to try spinning workouts at home like they may have experienced in the gym. Recumbent bikes put you in a seated position more like you would find while sitting in a chair – these are great for people that have avoided exercise bikes in the past due to back issues. Test them out and see what you like the best.

4. And finally, don’t forget the bells and whistles! The newest models come with many extra features, including LCD or TV displays, cooling fans, and audio systems or a heart rate monitor. Using a heart rate monitor during your workout will help you adjust the speed or incline to keep your heart rate in the optimum zone. It’s a good investment in your health!

Does biking on an exercise bike tone your body as much as running does?

I used to run on a treadmill for an hour, but it broke. I can’t afford to fix it right now and I don’t want to run outside because its FREEZING, literally. Will biking on an indoor exercise bike be just as good (in terms of toning) as running?

Answer
Depends how hard you push yourself, but in my experience it isn’t as good.

You will want an exercise bike that is built with high alloy steel or aluminum frame that is strong enough to support the heaviest person. Some machines come with a weight limit – make sure that limit won’t inhibit your workout.

2. Watch out for noise! A major consideration for a home exercise bike in Phoenix is the amount of noise it can produce.

What brand of tires would be best for Mountain biking?

Looking to get into downhill mountain biking again and was wondering what brand of tires would be good for some rough downhill mountain biking. Also where and how much should it cost? Thank you.

Answer
I like my Kenda Nevegals, but I’ve had some good experiences with Maxxis too…
