How to shift gear perfectly on a two wheeler bike?

I want to know how to shift gears perfectly on a two wheeler bike? I mean i wanted to know when is the correct time say to go from 1st to 2nd gear? I recently got a Yamaha gladiator SS 125cc. I don’t have problem with the top gears but only with 1-2 sometimes.

It takes a bit of practice before you can shift smoothly. It’s easier on some bikes than others.

Do you have a tach? Look at it and decide where to shift. Usually you go up to something like 80% of the redline. But even if you don’t have a tach you can hear where the engine sounds happiest. If it’s -screaming- and it sounds like it’s beating its little heart out, shift up. If it’s lugging (you can feel that), shift down.

Usually you use 1st gear just for starting out. As soon as you are rolling you can shift up to 2nd. You might go back to 1st to drive around a parking lot at 5 mph, or if you’re going up a really steep hill.

1st and 2nd gear have very narrow speed ranges. I mean, if you go up through the gears you might find you use 5th gear for anything over 30 mph. But 1st gear will be used up by, say, 10 mph. It has to do with the ratios. So 1t and 2nd are a little harder to use, to keep the RPMs in their proper range. But this is something else that will come with practice. The more you ride the bike, the better you’ll get at it.

What do I need to know to get into mountain biking?

I am trying to get a mountain bike for this summers use. I am looking to ride on somewhat rough trails, and I am new to buying step of getting into mountain biking. I am told that buying is something you have to take some time with and look carefully. I am not trying to find a bike for $1000 plus, I would rather have someone let me in on some mountain bike secrets and help me find a decently priced bike. Any bike warehouses with cheap deals? Anything would help.

Why Should You Wear A Helmet When You Ride Your Motorcycle

As I am writing this article I am thinking of the recent accident involving the Pittsburg Steelers star quarterback, “Big Ben” Roethlisberger. If he had been wearing a helmet his injuries would not have been nearly as severe.

For most of us bikers a helmet just doesn’t fit our perception of what biking is all about, which is freedom! I mean, hey it just doesn’t look cool to be on a hog with that little sissy helmet. But, I think it looks way less cool to have your face all scarred up from sliding on it down the road!

According to statistics almost every crash where the rider wasn’t wearing a helmet resulted in a major head injury. In one study out of 900 crashes there were 980 head and neck injuries which seems to indicate that the passengers on many of these motorcycles were not wearing helmets either.

Our neighbors to the north in Canada have now made it illegal to ride a motorcycle without a helmet due to the large percentage of fatalities in accidents in which the rider was not wearing one. Of course in the United States, like many other laws it is left up to the individual states to decide the ruling. I know where I live in Florida they repealed the helmet law a few years ago and according to an EMT buddy of mine it has caused a dramatic increase in head injuries.

If you value your brain and your life you should be responsible enough to wear a helmet. Some of the factors that you should consider when buying a motorcycle helmet are below.

All motorcycle helmets consist of two main parts, an inner shell or liner which is made of impact reducing foam and an outer shell which is made to absorb the initial impact and protect your head as well as take all of the damage that the road or other hard object would have done to your head.

When buying a motorcycle helmet you should be sure that it has been approved by the Department of Transportation. If the helmet has been approved it will have a sticker from the government agency stating so. Another sticker that is recognized all over the world is from the Snell Memorial Foundation.

Another thing that is hugely important is making sure that the motorcycle helmet you buy fits properly. You need to make sure that it doesn’t fit too loose or too tight. When you take it off there should be no marks on your face from the pressure of the helmet, if so the helmet is too tight.

You also want to be sure that it doesn’t wobble around or come off easily. If you are in an accident and the helmet comes off at first impact you may be bouncing down the road on your head!

i was just wondering, because i just got my first SS/fixed gear bike today (mountain bike background), and i dont see much too special with it, at least when compared to other road bikes of similar quality.

How reservations are taken, is another factor that you may want to think about when planning your camping trip. For instance, there are some campgrounds in the United States that randomly assign you a camping spot.  On the other hand, there are campgrounds that allow you to handpick your camping spot out of all the available locations.  Many campers prefer choosing their own camping spot, as it tends to give them some freedom over their camping trip and how much fun they have.  If you are picky about where you would like to camp, you may want to find a campground that allows you to choose your own camping spot.

Although it is nice to know what you should look for in a campground, it is also important that you know how to find them.  If you are interested in camping locally, you may already know of a number of local campgrounds.  If not, you should be able to use your local phone book, or ask those that you know for recommendations (optimal).  As for campgrounds that are located a ways away from your home, try using Recreation.gov  – “Recreation One-Stop is one of the E-Government initiatives in the President’s Management Agenda to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, and customer service of the recreation programs.” You may also want to check out Camping Sites Online and Trails.com

Does anyone know if Fixed Gear bicycle wheels can work on geared road bikes?

Im want to purchase a fixed gear wheel for style but I have a geared bike so im wondering if i can still use it. Or is fixed gear wheels only for fixed gear bikes?

One thing to consider is the distance between the outside of the lock nuts. Traditional fixed wheel bikes have this size at 120mm. If your frame has this dimension then, allowing for chain line, a fixed wheel will fit into your machine.

If the frame is made of half decent steel, the rear drop outs can be cold set. Make sure that the drop outs remain square.

Talking of drop outs, you will need at least semi vertical drop outs so that chain adjustments can be made. Traditional fixed wheel bikes have track ends that are horizontal ‘drop outs’.

You can’t use a chain tensioner with a fixed wheel bike.

You will also need a single chain ring. These can be converted from a multi geared chain set and I would advise the purchase of suitable chain ring bolts for a single chain ring.

Chain line is very very important. It will probably involve a different sized bottom bracket and or chain ring spacers.

Don’t do it for style as you probably won’t enjoy it. Fixed wheel riding is a totally different way of riding a bike that uses different skills and a different mind set.
